Vacation Announcement

We find it very exciting to be involved, even a small way, in all the the projects that you, our customers, design and create.  We enjoy helping make your ideas come to life and we thank you for the opportunity.  After almost 5 years of being in business we are going to take a little time to relax and recharge, so Threadneedle Fabrics will be closed for vacation Aug 4-15.  We look forward to seeing you after vacation.  Denise and Mary

New Workshop with Sarah Veblen Scheduled!

We are very excited to announce that we have recently scheduled a new workshop, Jacket Fitting, Design and Construction with Sarah Veblen for November 8-10, 2008.

See a complete description of the upcoming workshop and information and photos of our spring workshop on our News and Events page.

Sarah is pictured at left giving one of her mini-lectures during the spring Fitting Workshop.  This was an intensive 3 day workshop with 8 participants who worked on fitting 2-3 garments each.  Yards and yards of muslin were consumed in the search for a perfect fitting garment. We had a wonderful learning experience.
Sewing Tips from the authors of Threads magazine

The authors of Threads magazine have a wealth of sewing knowledge that they are happy to share.  They have a single page e-newsletter that comes out once a month for both Threads and Sew Stylish magazines in which they always offer a few sewing tips.  It's great to get a tip once a month whether it is a brand new concept or a review of a familiar technique.  It keeps your sewing revved up.  You can sign up at the Taunton newsletter registration.   I know I enjoy getting it each month.

Tool Tip from Denise

The rotary cutter is one of the best inventions in sewing in the last twenty years and it makes cutting out garments an absolute breeze.  But that's only if you have a large mat to accommodate yards of fabric.  The cost of a large mat has been a major stumbling block in getting sewers to adopt the rotary cutter for garment sewing.  Well a few months ago I got a tip from a customer that could help more sewers switch to using a cutter and a mat for their garments.  It seems that the plastic surface on the Lifetime folding tables sold at Costco and Wal-Mart is perfectly suitable for a rotary cutter.  When I was at Costco a few weeks ago the 30x72" Lifetime table they had in stock was just under $50 and it was height adjustable up to 40".  That is almost half the cost of the mat alone!  It may not be a beautiful piece of furniture but having a height adjustable cutting surface will save you time and save your back as well, although the height adjustable model is not always in stock.  And if need be you can fold it up and put it out  of sight or conscript it for a million other uses when you aren't cutting fabric.  All in all a very cost effective tool for your sewing.
